Comment: With cobalt spinel itself being a rarity, this is an exciting find: strongly color-shifting cobalt spinel. The good thing is: this gem is not only extremely rare but also extremely pretty. In pure daylight it excels with the legendary cobalt blue and moves to an intense purple violet at night and in mixed light (not for the camera though). Some inclusions are visible only under the lens (see the beautiful water-lilies!). The stone does have a window but it is symmetric and not disturbing plus the big face pays off. A delicacy, even for the seasoned collector.
