Comment: A well-known gem-variety, but so far underrepresented in our inventory. Now, newly on offer as a budget gem for the cost- AND quality-conscious buyer. This first tiger's eye of 2.60 carat and 9mm round stands out with a Z-shaped ray, as opposed to the common single centered ray. Other than in classic transparent cat's eyes, the ray of a tiger's eye does not move through the complete body but rather sways with the light source and is more surface bound. Similar to agate (also a quartz) it is found in mild, dark earthy colors, golden-brown, ochre, golden-green, and yellow, with the ray usually showing the brightest tone in the center, here in gold. Though it feels soft to the touch, almost organic, it comes with a seven on moh's scale and is durable enough for jewelry treated with normal care.
