Comment: A very interesting and surprising sapphire from Sri Lanka; though IGI couldn't ID its origin without inclusions. On most photos you may notice a bright, almost white, stripe or block through the center. But... it's not white, it's yellow, a thin color-zone in brightest yellow. This little detail makes the gem an interesting study and gives it an unusual appearance right from first sight though the eye cannot detect the reason; it just looks different. Sometimes a nice sky-blue, sometimes a shiny almost tinted white. The reason for this wide range is the little yellow section through the back. Personally, I would consider such a color zoning a positive feature, a unique add-on, not a flaw, but the market demands a discount, so you can get more for less. Also, on the backside, just visible on the image, you can find a so-called 'natural', a chip, a tiny round blotch where a crystal sat and fell out during cutting. Though visible under the lens and from the front, such is not considered an inclusion (even in the harshest grading regimes). If you are looking for truly unique, affordable, sparkly, unheated sapphire in e-ring size without mortgaging the house, here you are.
