Comment: A massive solid piece of jewelry in pyramid design, crowned with a round centre stone held by four full-hight double-prongs. The side-view shows three levels: First and lowest a 30mm wide, round plateau with 32 diamonds, then on a second level, a disc of 15mm set with 16 diamonds, and finally on a third level, like a king in his throne held high-up by four double prongs, sits the star of the show: a 6mm round royal blue unheated Burma sapphire. I selected this piece for our introduction-set to show the diversity of David's designs. This unique style, at first sight almost rugged though perfectly precise and sophisticated in the detail, focuses on the center stone (as we often want in high-end gems) but does not shy away from a flashy surrounding. It thus brings together the best of two worlds: the eye-boggling glitter of 'show-time' and the concentrated appreciation of the gem connoisseur. The pic didn't catch much side-color but it shows you the bold design with the ultra-precious sapphire at the very centre and high up, just where it belongs.

Comment: Over two carats, round precision-cut sapphires are a tall order. Unheated royal blue Burma sapphires have always been, and will be, a rarity. Here is all in one. Inclusions are visible only under the lens, no window, no treatments. A word about the lab reports in David's collection: All gems were tested when David bought them, but he didn't keep the reports in order, let alone catalogue them properly. When the gems were set over the last years, another lab report was issued, this time with appraisals for the retail value of the jewelry. For our presentation here, finally, we have re-made all reports but now without the, amongst gem collectors frowned upon, 'retail-value'. As any gemmologist can tell you, there is no fixed 'retail-value' for a two carat round unheated Burma sapphire. They are just too rare and unique to be evaluated like silver cutlery or plain diamonds. The most important features 'treatment' and 'origin' have been tested and re-tested, but we will make new reports if you so wish from GIA or IGI or wherever. It takes only time and some money, but the results will be the same.
