Comment: Probably the 'simplest' design in David's work and one that we regularly custom make for our more gem-centered clients. An austere, but immaculately crafted, platinum band (always 950), a light-optimizing bird-nest, and a row of prong set diamonds to frame the all-important center stone, is all that we need to show off the ruby after the diamonds have caught the eye with their rainbow sparkle. Note, that platinum makes even this minimalistic ring heavier than many posh gold designs.

Comment: Few high-end rubies come from Afghanistan but the GIA reported about newly opened mines in the north last year, close to the border of Tajikistan (I will research and link when I find the article). This 2.57 here is a most admirable quality, with no compromises compared to best Burma sources and, though less known, surely rarer. Significant size, best hue and tone, the red with a dash violet, eye-clean though some darker red structures can be seen at some angle, nothing that disturbs the view. WGI graded 'unheated' and 'pigeon blood', though the latter is an over-chewed term it signals finest quality. No window, as good as eye-clean, facetted with perfection (though in traditional hand-work), and ready to brighten your every day with its beauty and absolute rarity.
