Comment: "Ghostly" emerald from Columbia (IGI says Brazil-type but that only means South-America, so GRI is more specific and we trust our sources). In person, this gem is obviously bright green (as in the report photos), but if you make a simple photo it turns obviously blue! This is a common phenomena in emerald. Many people (including the gem labs in their reports) simply photoshop all emeralds back to their 'real' green and I can, for a change, sympathize with this argument. However, I did not do it (we don't own a photoshop liscence so we won't be tempted), but managed to catch some green here and there, plus some grass and moss inclusions inside the emerald garden. Also, see the flat side-image below: that is the shadow of the gem caught in a mirror, like a cross-section of the emerald-garden under the 'earth' (this photo led to the adjective "ghostly".) With near 7x7mm the gem is dashingly visible, shining across the room, thanks to the chromium. Full disclosure: This emerald probably has seen cedar oil and thus makes the first-ever exception to our iron no-treatment rules. This said, all big gem laboratories (IGI, GIA, GRS, AGL...) do not testify any emerald as 'unoiled' anymore. Why? There is some logic here: They say 'oil can easily be removed and then re-applied (other than, for example, heat), so they must call all emeralds oiled or they would be cleaned, certified as 'no-oil' and then re-oiled (by us bad-bad traders). We bought rough emerald right from the ground, cut it under strict oil-quarantine and still we got an 'oiled' back from the labs (happened e.g. with SBE210 or SCE303 or GBE500, hence we gave up though those are 100% un-oiled). This gem however, we bought already cut, so, yes, it might have been oiled. Nevertheless here is 1.58 carat of bright-green Columbian emerald, despite the dense emerald garden, shining like a magic torch (this is the chromium), it has no window, is in a rare shape, individually well-crafted cutting, prestige origin and double certified.
