Comment: Padparadscha is by definition a delicate color; pink-orange hues in tones between Light 30 and Medium Dark 60. No yellow, no purple, no brown, no green, nor too much grey is allowed and only an independent laboratory can prevent even the most honest owner from interpreting sunsets or lotus colors into fancy pink sapphires and enforce controverse decisions. For this 1.33 AIGS had all reasons to report 'unheated padparadscha.' No secondary color can be detected and the tone is right in the middle. Nevertheless, additional reports can be ordered at your pleasure. Pink and orange appear to be collecting in zones depending on angle and light setting (not true color zoning). Like Paraiba or Kashmir, padparadschas were once bound to only one origin, Sri Lanka, but this limitation has been lifted over time. This 1.33 was hand-cut into a rare (octagonal) emerald-shape. It is not deep and easily shows the lengthy window typical for emerald cut. Under 'more images,' see one horizontal shot showing the maximum window. Luckily, we don't have any nasty inclusions disturbing the center. A veil and a deep orange knot sit in the corners and need a lens to study. The flat cut buys a large face-up with 8x5mm and would allow a pendant setting. While 'octagonal' the small sides are not big enough to hold prongs (IMO). In any case, a bezel will not darken this tone but rather help closing the window. Untreated padparadschas are amongst the rarest and most sought-after gems on earth, equaling or excelling the big four (diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald) in fame and legend.
