Comment: The color of a tropical sky at last dusk. No pollution. no airplanes or clouds in this firmament. Utterly free of inclusions, no window, untreated and perfect cut. No purple in the blue, and less than little of so-called 'bleeding' under low light. 'Bleeding' is the loss of vividness (or un-purifying) of blue into purple (a color) or grey (not a color). See side/backimages for the pretty ideal shape, no belly, no high crown. Also, note the perfectly distributed color along the gem's three dimension. While color impression is only judged from the front, it's rare to find sapphires that are so even colored even from the side and back. The cutter of this gem did not worry about weight retention but cut the core of a sapphire crystal into a perfect oval shape. This crystal could have yielded many more carats but we here see only the finest center, like the filet or (if you are vegetarian) the tip of asparagus. Australia does not produce many deep blue sapphires but more green and yellow mixes (particolored). When it does, you get this pure blue without any purple. IGI added 'good color quality' and origin. Do not take this gem for a merry blue sparkler, it's deep blue, the most expensive and sought-after color, which however often shocks the newcomer at first sight but is fascinating over time. NSC used to warn 'blue sapphires are dark' on their best stones'. No purple means the blue does not have the warm flowery character of cornflower. Will fill a size six ring, and deserves additional sparkle from diamonds or other high brilliancy gems. A round of green tsavorite would be my choice, catching the eye and preparing for the senses for the main dish (you can tell I'm hungry).
