Overall Grade: Excellent

Comment: This citrine is visibly color-zoned, though the entire gem emits a warm sunshine orange and only a closer look, with or without lens, reveals gradually and abrupt changes of hues and tones. Check the side- and back-images. A beautiful gem, bright and yet richly colored, allowing us to ignore the barely perceptible window, the type of window that 'didn't-see-till-told'. Equally important is the amazingly clean and dense shiny crystal allowing light to move through the color zones in waves of golden-yellow and yellow-orange, unhindered by inclusions, fractures or clouds. The giant face-up, 11x10mm, adds value to the deal. This is the second unheated lemon-quartz or citrine with obvious color-zoning from Minas Gerais this year. The crystal intensity reminds of the deeply colored unheated rough citrines we acquired ten years ago directly in Brazil and had precision cut in Germany. Those were similar in intensity minus the zoning; now almost sold out with only a few pieces left in high-price-protection. Ten years later, these new-comers give fresh hope though they will always require good sizes to develop strong enough hues in their bright tones, probably never under five carats. Pendant material or, under bezel protection, a daring cocktail gem!
