Comment: A rare example of clean ruby from Ceylon, with flowery purple mingled in the red and pink. As many Ceylon rubies, it marks the border between ruby and sapphire and opinions may differ on the classification. However, it does not change its beauty, nor its value with deep pink sapphires as expensive as bright red rubies. This color in MD60 is different from the aggressive hue one may see in Burma or even Africa but NO less visible. It is a lush earthly color (not brown or grey but 'earthy' as opposed to "neon") reminding of fruits and blossom colors in their best time. The brighter center section is not color zoning but simply more light returning from an exceptionally full luster. See more images for additional color impressions, also in side and back view. The shape may be called rounded rectangular, in fact the sides are parallel lines without any curve, or cushion. 3Nos quality in fine ruby. No window but excellent hand-cutting especially for this rare material usually cut for weight-retainment but here cut with the precision of modern lapidaries. Almost no inclusions even under the lens. Untreated, naturally. A fresh lab report can be done with some extra time and little dough. Almost 8x5mm from just over one carat is an exceptional yield without even a tilt window. Ring sizes up to 8 or 9 with halo.
