Overall Grade: Very Good

Comment: Like BSE070, a variation of blue depending on angle and light settings, to a certain extend a quality every blue sapphire displays but in this parcel from Sri Lanka (others have already been published, a few more are coming) it is more pronounced. IGI graded the whole parcel, though submitted separately over several months, as 'purple blue' which shows that IGI is doing a diligent job (not only calling all blue = blue, as some equally reputable labs do, or forget the purple there but not here, or call it violet to confuse some more). There we have the other reason why this mine-run is so light-sensitive and tone-changing: the 2ndary purple softening the hue in shifts towards warmer and darker variations of blue, or brightens it into a colder blue in daylight. Under the lens, and only there, a few interesting inclusions await the gemologists' study, one reminding of a helicopter or a bee in amber. 7x5mm makes for a good lady's ring size, for example in a 5mm wide band with half bezels holding the gem in a faux-tension style. No inclusions, no treatments, and no window, our preferred quality in the top 5% range of all untreated gems and the top 0.1% of all gems out there.
