Overall Grade: Very Good

Comment: Old Ceylon stock in bright sky blue. The light tone increases luster and decreases the budget. Elegant individual cut, flawless. Rare rectangular shape. The exact hue and tone is best seen in handshot and on wood. The image on the IGI report is a big too dark blue. No window, no visible inclusions, no treatments. 3NOs in unheated blue sapphire over 2 carats but well under $10k. Full face-up, good for a ladies size 7 or gent's 9. On this gem, I would only suggest a bezel, preferably white gold or platinum. Not prongs unless they protect the corners. If a crown is wanted, perhaps cabochon in dark hues, blue like iolite or kyanite, or black spinel would contrast best, or, if you want sapphire of course dark blue cabochons but they will be tough to find in an unheated set.
