Comment: A most classic gem, in cut, shape, color, origin, for me an almost nostalgic grading experience, the type of tourmaline which, aside from sapphire, started our business in Sri Lanka, when a bad mine-run, of which there were always many, could be rescued by one such clean and richly colored tourmaline. Not that they were in abundant supply, but one could somehow always rely on a tourmaline to carry the day, even if a decade ago they sold only for a fraction of today's value. The market changed radically after Fukushima and tourmaline became of the best investments in the trade, had you bought (or mined) before the disaster and didn't sell too fast thereafter. Today, a 1.72 vivid green gem with no inclusions is a respected find and a precious jewel. Big, ten carats plus tourmalines are sought-after rarities, paid for dearly. Please note the center shot below with the gem standing upright and its front to the camera: the center remains in the darkest green but does not black-out. This is the hue and tone the gem presents without light falling into the center, as it does on the other image. The 3*Nos are happily fulfilled: no treatments, no window, no inclusions (even under the lens). A precise cut, notable and appreciated in any design, simple or complicated, gives the gem an orderly character inviting an equally precise and symmetric setting for jewelry. Let us design a bespoke ring or pendant, with an equally unique if classic gem.
