Comment: One of the best star rubies available in years. Double certified by GIA and TGL. The lush cherry red in combination with a semi-translucent body is extremely rare. This 3.82 is the most vivid red possible or imaginable in a star. Rich colors in stars are, scientifically spoken, a contradiction, an optical impossibility since the white silk that give the gem its star is bound to brighten any color, blue, pink or red. The thicker the silk the better the potential star, but strong silk will turn the crystal opaque, milky white, taking out its color. Therefore, the combination of strong color and a strong star is an extreme rarity. The asterism is perfect and runs through on both sides of the cabochon. The overall appearance is round (another plus) even if it is strictly spoken oval. No nasty egg-shapes, no broken edges, no ugly black spots, just smooth round red with a shiny star. This ruby comes from an old Burmese family and was mined a full century ago in Mogok. Please see additional images for color without spotlight.
