Comment: Here are the two biggest iolites in the market joined in a most impressive pair of violet-blue magic. Both around 13x8mm, in that deep hue so far found only in Iolites. Free of inclusions, untreated and well cut. As mentioned in PIO316, the size of iolites correlates not only with their tone, (getting darker) but also with their hue, bringing out more blue than purple, thus pushing violet more towards blue. Their character is softer than midnight blue sapphire, the crystal denser and the hue warmer. Kyanite, like the one we just published, are far closer to sapphire than iolites. Their luster is more a glow than a distinct brilliancy, emanating from the complete gem or rolling with motion. See 'more images'.
