Comment: Not a ruby? Surprised? So were we! Between orange and red, this giant was certified as sapphire (not ruby). Blinding orange-red in direct sunlight (no image possible), glowing fresh ember in even the lowest tungsten light, deep red with a good dash of orange in normal daylight, or so my retina reports, and yet AIGS printed 'red orange sapphire' in black on white. Another (as if we needed more) example why self-certification without scientific third-party 'truth' is a shaky boat to buy in. The miner, his 'runner', the local dealer, we all said 'that's ruby' but not so the cold scientific analysis of colors under standardized light done by somebody without skin in the game. Knowing the quality of AIGS' work, I doubt other labs would turn out a different result, though one may try (when all else is done and a $500 is sitting unused). Bigger than a 'normal' five carats heart with a face-up of 12x10mm and yet no window to bemoan (thanks to the dense vivid crystal), plus no treatments and no eye-visible inclusions (our 3*NOS of Excellence fulfilled). No purple, no brown, no pink, only red and orange in disputable shares. Romantic? Very much so! At $30k no cheap emotion but one straight from princess-land, a gemstone so impressive one may weave story-lines around it: the queen's favorite jewel bequeathed in her dying hour to the only son to keep secret from the greedy king until the son finds whom the gem will identify as the right ONE by breaking apart, a fact the king must never know or the son will perish in a dungeon, forever unloved .... add $10k and I will (ghost-)write you a full-fledged novella to be published for your loved one. Fiction aside and back to the gem in hand: Other than most heart-shapes this beauty was cut in perfect symmetry, without twisted edges or jagged bows, evenly mirrored through the center (to break in two equal pieces, one for the prince and one for the newly found princess to overthrow the evil king...). In this size and color, a remarkable find, five carat red-orange sapphire, unheated no less. Let's set it in platinum, sprinkle a few dozen small diamonds around - a truly magic gift, eternal tax-free value on top.
P.S. In case you prefer a 100% ruby in similar shape and red-only, treble certified, you may check out this romance of a gem. The offer for an accompanying fairy tale stands.
P.P.S. The fact that we have two five carat heart shapes in our inventory does not mean they grow on trees but is simply a miracle.
