Comment: Kunzite is defined as the pink version of spodumene. Triphane is the yellow type. This giant, almost thirty carats, gem was traded and, IMHO rightly so, as kunzite. The problem is that treating spodumene with heat and radiation produces a screaming vivid pink which has stealthily become a demanding standard for kunzite even though the treated color is not stable but will fade over time. Softer pink spodumene, the natural kunzite in golden champagne colors, peach- and lavender-hues are not considered kunzite anymore despite the fact that these colors are eternally stable. Supposing the lab-staff is spoiled by treated vivid pink kunzite. True, this thirty-carater mixes pink with soft yellow and cinnamon but the resulting body-color is a mild peach pink or a pastel apricot not yellow. See 'more images': Firstly, the beautiful reaction to UV-light, then the perfect choice of cutting axis visible where the gem stands on a mirror and the side-image reflection below is colorless. As always with delicate hues the handshots are overloaded with the skin-color behind and are useful mostly for judging size. Speaking of dimensions, this gem oversteps the possibilities for even the most daring cocktail ring and will need to become a pendant. Almost perfect hand-cutting, no window, no inclusions, no treatments, plus an elegant hue discounted from enduring pink kunzite charm to triphane rate.
