Overall Grade: Excellent

Comment: Neon tourmaline in long rectangular shape. Green with a strong tint of blue. Shiny mirror reflection from an utterly clean crystal. As always in this cut, movement produces bars of different tones and hues shifting up and down (or left and right, see more images) through the gem. This effect is often understood as 'brilliancy' but is in fact the result of color-shifts, not by different light-sources, but by different viewing angles (pleochroism). Exploiting this effect, many tourmalines are cut with few and long facets, and these shifting bars then replace brilliancy (if well done, as in this precision cut here). Probably best set in a pendant. No inclusions, no window, no treatments. 3*Nos in 8x5mm of best Afghani tourmaline (today called 'old mine' with Mozambique delivering the main supply of these neon colored gems.) In Medium 50, never dark, never pale, no grey or no brown. Although not a small gem, it has a delicate appearance, slim and elegant.
