Overall Grade: Excellent

Comment: Charmed by that fascinating magic hue in the first small iolites PIOI059, we set to find a larger piece. Here it is. As expected, the tone darkened with more material but retained its magic glow with little black-out. Size also moved this iolite further into blue rather than purple but not closer to blue sapphire. The border between blue and violet remains fluid: purple is strengthened under full light, while less there-off moves the gem further towards midnight blue. This 3.17 pear is part of a pair PPIO629. Untreated, no window, no inclusions. Obviously not a merry sparkler but a lush, dense crystal glowing with warm colors.
