Comment: Look at this and say, with a straight face, 'Totally unimpressive!'. I can't, wouldn't try even. One may complain about uneven shapes of most ammolite but what color-magic. Here a croco-surface in all possible colors except red-pink and even these can be imagined between the purples and blues, especially IRL under strong light. Only lately discovered by yours humbly, this organic gem may well be one of the most exciting up-and-coming varieties in our world. Nature has set a limited supply of these 400 million years old (!) greetings from a world unimaginable to us modern beings running around convinced of our boundless importance in nature and time. Meh! If anybody here is new to collecting gems, limited in time and budget as we all are but does not want to get lost in the legions of colored marvels nature has left for us, ammolites would make a perfect focus for a rare and valuable collection with ample sub-varieties and unique quality-features to keep one busy till the next world calls. Ammolite comes with its own grading system of no less than six factors describing the quality of a gem: A) intensity of its iridescence, B) overall color-spectrum, C) shift & range of color, D) type of scaling plus E) overall shape and finally F) the surface depth of the ammolite. Now, who values which quality over the other is still subject to opinions (as in many colored gems). Some features, like the depth of its surface and strong colors are easily valued, but preferring croco over un-interrupted surfaces is left to our personal choice, thank God! A must see and keep for all who love nature's most colorful shows. To be (we do it with all risk on our side) set in an one-ever pendant to draw attention on the next party if you want such (wear undertextil in case you want to avoid envy).
P.S. With a limited supply of these fossils, it is thought to be depleted in two or three decades. Using a DeBeer-approach, ammolite would make a much better monopoly candidate than diamonds did without overproduction in mid-century. VC's may apply for funding here. Currently sold for under $100/ct but do not ask for a discount under $500 in five years.
