Comment: A pool of cold water from the Brazilian city of Lencois condensed into greenish blue stone. 'Lencois', when correctly written with Portuguese letters including the little hooks and apostrophes, means 'Linen'. The Indians used to wash their linen in those little pools which the river has dug into the mountains over millennia. Not far away, in Brazilian dimensions, is Minas Gerais where this aquamarine was mined especially for us and the rough kept away from the normal heat and radiation process, and also not sent to be facetted but worked into cabochons. The hue, strong for untreated aquamarine, gleams in blue with a hint of green. In the transparent material, a few inclusions are more visible than they would have been in a normal facetted gem but there it is, inclusions visible on the surface and needles inside the crystal. Therefore, this four-carat gem is offered on the bargain-table but rest assured that no flaws will distract from the beauty of natural aquamarine color.
