Comment: These matrix-opals are relentless individualists, more so than all the other utterly unique colored gems, each a new continent of shapes and shades to discover, from the general character under the plain view to the study of magic details under the lens such as the glowing green spots inside the rainbow-colored streams. To grade such individuality within a standard format is practically impossible but it must be done. Unless they have any flaws, which we avoid, they are very much a question of personal taste and each is a wonder of creation. Check this 22 carats: I'm not even sure which SIDE is prettier, both displaying all-over charm and countless details. The main image shows the official upside, yet I, personally, would prefer its backside (the one in the handshots). There it appears that a tree-like pattern emerges from the center, fed by the green lake in the lower left. From the two close-up shots you can get an idea of the endless details that are on offer under the lens. As mentioned elsewhere, boulder- and matrix-opals refuse to be measured in carats but are more often valued as 'per piece', like art with size being only of secondary regard (like a giant oil painting vs a small sketch). That said, this surely is pendant-size, and could be set under a rotatable loop to show both sides depending on mood or fashion.
