Comment: Black opal with a body-tone of N1, equivalent to Dark 95-100 in gems, are the original super-stars amongst opals. Found almost exclusively in Lightning Ridge, Australia, and then very rarely in N1, they are the most sought-after and expensive pieces in any opal collection. Different light settings bring peacock green & blue, yellow but also red and orange deep into this triangular pyramid. With 12x16mm the gem is equally attractive from both sides (no matrix, only opal). Our images show the gem from both sides in different light settings including sunlight and tungsten light. The flat underside can be distinguished by a white surface crystal, just visible to the unaided eye and on photo. Both sides are gorgeous but the inclusion will probably vote for the upper side (or a rotating loop). Significant size for black opal, rare orange-red flames in peacock green-blue, pleasant size and shape for a pendant.
