Comment: Untreated black opal, the today rarest type when untreated (often heated and 'smoked'). With green and blue as mobile colorplay on almost jet black base (N2) it reminds of images of green parts of earth seen from space. Opals are not only valued per carat but also in regards to shape and visible surface with colorplay. This gem shows 10x5mm of 'active' surface and its shape allows a pendant, even though the total weight is under one carat. The dominant green parts are neon intense, the blue sections display a deeper calmer blue crossing into violet but not purple. The flat 'underside' will accomodate a setting with a closed back for additional protection. This oldest and classic type of opal comes with the fame of an ancient noble gem (compared to the new, but also very beautiful Welo-Opals from Ethiopia). Addictive sight under longer study and reserved beauty to the casual observer.
