Comment: From the deepest untreated purple amethyst: an oval hand-carved shell. Other than many carved gem-objects this is not opaque material but 100% facet quality. Yet, the thickness of the shape and also it's uneven surface result in a different color character than the faceted gems we have from the same source. Obviously, with the material thicker, the tone turns deeper, the inner crystal is hidden from direct view (hence the vague clarity grading) and brilliancy does not come to count at all. The purple turns so dense that it almost appears to move into violet-blue (which is why you'll find this gem in the 'blue-section' as well). Note the unique impression when facet material is used for cabochons, combining the clarity of a facet crystal with the glow of a cabochons' depth. Pendant size as a single gem, but we also have an identical brother/sister in case you consider designing earrings with us, so-called 'bespoke jewelry', one piece only, made for you! As the images show, the purple is pure and dark, almost blue but never black. The IGI image shows the gem from the flat underside where three parallel clefts run through the middle, while the curved upper-side surface is out of focus. It'll help to keep open space behind the body when designing earrings or a pendant.
