Comment: This hessonite garnet was cut in an adapted diamond brilliant shape, and well done. The cutter had the good knowledge to change the usual diamond numbers to match the optical features of hessonite and thus avoided any window. Inclusions are visible only under the lens. The typical hessonite swirls, the seemingly liquid inner motion, exclusive to the hessonite family, are not visible in detail (lens only) but give the gem an uncommon lively effect beyond normal luster. Most hessonites fall in the orange field with either a secondary yellow or, as here, a red tone. In the rare extremes they can be primarily yellow or red. With 7mm round it will suit any ring design up to size nine. Round shapes are, in my experience, rarely used in pendants even if the size would allow it. If you are looking for earrings to be envied by everybody and if we have some extra time, we can find a matching partner for you.
P.S. The unusual circumstances of this year, personal and in general, have so far hindered us from getting lab reports done, although I dare hope this will change by late May when I will visit Antwerp in person. The price here quoted is EXCLUDING our usual certificate. If you like to have a lab report for this garnet we need to add between $100 for an IGI report or up to $1,000 premium for a full AIG report. But it, too, would need a good deal extra time (currently over 12 weeks, sigh). That prices in this P.S. section differ is no lazy mistake but reflects the different pricing policies of the gem labs we use. Some calculate via weight, e.g. a 7 carat garnet is more expensive to test than a one carat, others labs go via pieces, when a small sapphire costs as much as a 10 carat gem.
