Comment: New find of neon green-yellow sphenes in Sri Lanka. This vanadium-bearing type was hitherto known from Madagascar, hence it is no surprise to find them in the geologically related island of Ceylon. What makes these sphene so special is their aggressive hue in combination with one of the highest brilliancies of the gem world. While titanites have the same dispersion they are of milder orangy brown shades, also pretty but a very different gem (mostly from Afghanistan). The octagonal cut of this 1.07 is uncommon in so far as it shows off more color than lustre and we thought it is a good alternative option to have in stock. In good light sphenes glitter in all rainbow colours (kicking any diamond under the carpet). While this shape still shows more sparkle than any other emerald-cuts it is a daring combination. No visible inclusions, no window, AIGS certified, untreated. Great special gem worth every $ and then some. Simple but effective precision cut. Magic eye-catcher.
