Comment: Small but bright & shiny, well colored pink spinel for a budget. It came to us via a parcel of Ceylon sapphires and, obviously, was impossible to distinguish from those at first sight. This is no shame, spinel and sapphire have only been distinguished as separate varieties in the last century. Color impression best ID-ed from the side, less from the front, and even less in handshot where brilliancy swallows all details. No purple, some orange, no brown, a fresh sunny orange pink (which could be called 'padparadscha spinel' but this has gone to far; there now are pad garnets and pad tourmalines on offer). Big face, no window, no visible inclusions, no treatments. With 4mm square big enough for a normal size ladies' ring. Full brilliancy guarantees visibility even in small gems.
