Comment: Classic spinel colour from Ceylon: darkish mauve mixing violet and purple. Taaffeite also comes in this colour and is often misidentified as spinel (this is spinel though). Suave and mellow character, not shiny and showy, hence also 'cheaper' because most buyers want show and shiny in gems. Yet, you can find unique beauty and ever changing hues and tones in this gem. Under the sun, in candle-light and especially under harsh office lamps, this inconspicuous fellow will surprise with sudden sparkles of pretty violets, warm purples, and dark mauves. No window, no treatment, no flaws. No visible inclusions, even under the lens barely perceivable. Huge: 11x8mm at under 500/ct in all-natural spinel with full Wild Fish perks.
