Overall Grade: Very Good+

Comment: Tenderly colored watermelon tourmaline, cut from the not yet fully ripe fruit. The pink side is most obviously colored, the opposing part seems almost colorless at first sight but a closer study reveals a hint of green and then some more pink in outer edge. See the two images shot lengthwise through the gem: one almost deep rose, the other a mélange of soft orange and faint green. A photogenic piece testing any gem-lover to limit the numbers of shots chosen to represent the gem. Each new angle bringing out different variations of color and tone within the ever-changing play of light and shadow. A decade ago such gems were plentiful but this is the first we got in 2018. Utterly free of inclusions, even under the lens, an important quality in lightly colored gems and especially rare in this type of tourmaline. IGI report, global transport, grading papers, a plot of rainforest under your personal protection and a donation given to protect our animal-brothers and -sisters from unnecessary suffering. Could be set in a tasteful ring or designed into a pendant, using the balance of soft colors in a fine clean crystal for a jewel that could be impressive but unassuming at the same time.
