Comment: Here is the best of two worlds, opal with play-of-color (mostly done in cabochons) but faceted into marquise shape. Opal, with its low density, always produces big gems; in addition, a marquise cut is the most favorable cut for big face-sizes. Both together allow almost 15x6mm from only 1.36 carat. As I hope the images convey, within the limits of such stills, opals with good play-of-color thrive on movement, always changing, never static, flashing green, yellow, orange, red and some blue in flame patterns. No inclusions and, as testified in the IGI report, transparent not translucent as classic fire opals. With the clarity of a crystal opal, the flame-effects are even more surprising as the intense colors seem to jump from 'thin air'. Could be set in a full-sized ring or a pendant. See the back-side images for an additional setting-option: this opal could well be worn upside-down.
