Comment: One more proof, should we need more, that cutting facet quality rough into cabochons (as it was mostly done in ancient times) brings out new, additional qualities in a gem. This here Ceylon hessonite, cut from absolute clean material (not the usual opaque or included crystals used for cabochons) brings out the hessonite-only inner swirls, the liquid character which can only be found in this unique type of garnet, in a way that facetted gems do not. This is not a judgement, facetted hessonites can and may have all and every charm, but in cabochon the fluid crystal presents a different perspective on the gem. We have seen this in aquamarine, amethyst and of course sapphire and ruby, and also the other way around in opals (when cabochons are cut in facetted gems instead). See the many different hues and tone this 2.81 displays, from red-orange to ochre-red and Bordeaux red, mostly changed only by the intensity of the surrounding light, not so much the type of light (as in a CC), but simply darker or brighter light changing hue and tone. I fail to come up with a simple explanation other than the obviously different path a ray of light takes through the gem. A sister/brother stone will be presented soon for a pair of earrings. IGI report, free global shipping, WLT certificate and all WildFish perks, are included in our price.
