Comment: As substitute for currently unavailable Rutile Topaz, we offer Rutile Quartz, with very similar looks, but less specific-gravity, therefore bigger in same carat range. Here giving 10x7mm with only two carats. The fascinating detail of course lays in the rutile inclusions. In this 1.97 the needle structure is so thick that the first impression is that of an almost yellow gem. Others Rutile Quartz (or Topaz) can be clear like water with only one or two single needles punching through. Both extremes have their individual beauty. Rutile itself is a wonderous mineral, too, a record material, with highest values in almost all optical features, from birefringence to dispersion, but also in gravity, and as a semiconductor, with wide industrial uses from sunscreen to spacecrafts. In other gems, thin, almost invisible, and most importantly parrallel, rutile-needles are the base for asterism, famous as stars in corundum. See the close-up showing the wild yellow straw-colored inclusions, as visible under the lens. As rutile is highly light sensitive, it can change from mild earthy brown in low light to shiny golden yellow under sunshine. BTW: Natural rutile alone is not found in facet quality, to my knowledge. All-told this a rare but affordable gem for a pendant with natural charms.
