Comment: Here is a rare specialty from the coldest north of Canada with one of the famous Aurora Borealis frozen into its surface. This color-effect called 'labradorescence' in honor of its only occurrence on the shores of Labrador, a strong iridescence that displays various colors across the grey or dark surface of this feldspar variety, also called 'spectrolite'. Can it get any more special? To top it off, this gem displays the same beautiful glimmer on both sides, up and below, allowing creative design options for a pendant (see 'more images' for the underside). Further we have the exceptional quality of a full rainbow spectrum in this specimen, a gemological rarity. BTW, I was also reminded of the rainbow shimmer on the flanks of a freshly caught (and released) trout, but that's probably my own peculiar connection to wild water creatures. With over 30 carats and one-inch-plus length, visibility is guaranteed. From there, the gem makes a fascinating dinner story about the Inuit hunter who first found such a gem under the Northern Lights according to local history, or the celebrated extraterrestrials who use these gems to communicate with humans, or one of the many other myths connected to this fascinating specimen.
