Overall Grade: Excellent

Comment: This coral was once over six carats but was re-cut to clean out some natural inclusions on the outer edge. Now, it is as perfect as any coral you may ever find. The color is plainly gorgeous even if the surface reflection gives it an extra edge on camera. The back-side image shows you the unpolished color onto which you can add the surface luster to get to the IRL impression. Corals of this size and unplemished body are a tall order, and 95+% of that is treated in various ways. Not this one of course, but actually tested twice before and after re-cut. It came from very old gold jewelry, was taken out under destruction of the ring, only to find some natural white channels running underneath (the living quarters of the former inhabitant and creators of any coral; having been somebodies 'house' for thousands of years) and getting recut and finaly rejected by the customer for one (1) lens-only one millimter wide white corridor of the afore mentioned Italian real-estate owner, probably his connection between bath and bedroom (see below). Joking aside, this coral was harvested before the 18th century (based on the age of the jewelry), which was of course no less a loss for nature but here it is, with us already, water under the bridge and deserving a loving home.
