Comment: As sparkly as gems come. Only sphalerite brings more fire to the table (but is softer in jewelry). If you are worried about setting a gem less durable than sapphires or diamonds, allow us to do the goldsmithing job and we will cover the risk of breakage or other damage. Naturally, such a setting should be protective of the gem and the resulting jewelry is not suitable for training in martial arts. This Madagascan sphene is of the greenish yellow type, as opposed to the red-orange titanite variety from Pakistan, though the image on the IGI report shows far too much green. Inclusions, though easy to detectable under the lens and normal in most sphene, are not visible to the unaided eye, hence the clarity grading is 'lightly included'. No window, no treatments, traditional hand-cut, and in a good size given the increased attention sphene has attracted in recent years. Our own first encounter with these magic master-sparkler goes back 15 years, long before the web made them famous. Those days, even five carat gems were easy to find and reasonable, but those days have long gone. Today, every sphene over two carat can be called lavish; and little wonder it is, given the fact that even a half carat of fine sphene draws more attention than any mundane diamond.
