Overall Grade: Good

Comment: This dark type of indicolite poses a challenge to present. On the one side, it has that terrific deep blue that shows with light falling in and shows only in dark tones, on the other side it turns to a darker, if not black, blue. It is possible to show it in all bright all-out blue, but that does not present all reality. As so often in MD80, we are looking at a trade-off between the most fascinating deep color and a black-out. The handshot below may come close to show the gem in balance. Other images, on dark and white background (more images) show steps from blue to almost black-out. The side image shows its fine blue along a different axis. With good light, the long shape turns the gem into a bar of gleaming blue, a beautiful sight. No inclusions, no window, and untreated. Will make a magic pendant, opening up in intense blue at times, glowing deep blue in others.
