Overall Grade: Good

Comment: After setting it aside several times because of inclusions, and yet, picking it up again for the blasting color and its unusual luster, it seemed impossible to discard this rubellite (even if it doesn't make all three NOS). As explicitly brought out in the images, a set of inclusions, visible not as dark spots or such, but as sparkling swirls seemingly coming out of 'no-where'. From that POV, the gem could be characterized as 'included with weird luster'. The cause for this unusual glitter becomes visible only under the lens, or in one, but NOT the other, side-shots (below, also magnified). There, wavy flakes of different hue and tone redirect light on rounded plateaus, causing unexpected sparks from the front. Reminding of a Pollock if he had used more red or purple rather than depressing black and grey. AIG granted a well-deserved 'fine color quality' and 'vivid purple' (although one may have expected at least a mentioning of 'red'). With only 2*NOS, a discount is unavoidable, offering a blast of intense red-purple for less and a striking luster for free. Equally uncommon is an emerald-cut in rubellite with a multi-step crown framing the un-depressed Pollock in the center. A wildly unpredictable color-shock for a bespoke ring within a reasonable budget (not to compare with cheaper ready- or custom-made jewelry). Always better than images.
