Comment: Demantoids have always been a major gem in the off-line world (high-end jewellery shops) because they look so fantastic in person, especially under the usual light settings that brick & mortar shops exploit (no critic, nothing wrong with making the best of your wares, within obvious limits). Online, I feel, Demantoids have been less appreciated because they photograph less well. (There is a chemical/optical reason for this, but I forget just now.) However, they sparkle like diamonds plus they bring many more colours to the plate, especially when you include other Andradite Garnets (they come in golden, yellow, ochre and so on and are less expensive - tip for the budget conscious). These two here, precision-cut-to-match, give us over two carats in full 6mm diameter without window. Inclusions are visible only under the lens. Double IGI certified. As always when judging pairs you have to go into the detail dimensions and compare their face sizes, (Measures: 6.04-6.08x4.05 & 6.05-6.08x3.75mm) meaning here a deviation of microscopic 0.01 millimetre (which is around one tenth of a human hair's width). The colour is a fresh grass green, including some yellow but no brown and no grey. As studs they will set you on fire with a rainbow of colours: see the side image where red, purple, blue and orange sparks fly from the green (this is called 'dispersion' but is hard to catch on photo from the front).
