Overall Grade: Excellent

Comment: Deepest violet in a precision-cut-to-match pair of iolites. Both gems are free inclusions (nothing to see even under the lens), window-free, and as always with us, untreated. In Medium Dark 75, the hue is very close to the legendary Kashmir blue in sapphires. See backside images for the excellent sharp cutting style. Other than in IOI104 the pleochroic effects is not as prominent. I'll need to check if this is a function of cut or just a different mine-run. So, in these pear shapes there is little loss of color in tilted positions. Almost identical in size, hue, tone and cut, but not calibrated, they share one gem-lab-report. Obviously, a pair ideal for earrings, either studs (remind the goldsmith to design for vertical balance) or, better IMHO, for a dangling design. See more images.
