Overall Grade: Very Good
Comment: Cut-to-match (simple but flawless) from good old Ceylon rough, red garnets with IGI seals as rhodolites. Both are as clean as a pre-industrial river, indistinguishable in hue and tone, identical face-up dimensions (always more important than carats in pairs), never dark, never too pink, classic rhodolites before Tanzanian's neon-purple raised expectations and prices to 2005 sapphire levels. These 2.81 offer what red garnets always did: an affordable, pretty and durable alternative to ruby (at least until spinel was ID-ed as not-ruby). With 6x7.5mm they will make an elegant pair of earrings with neither hue, nor size shamelessly begging for attention, but always visible in their calm beautiful red. As you may notice from our images, where we usually show a gem's color potential in different settings, these two couldn't care less. In some varieties it seems impossible to document the same color twice in one day, if at all. These 'good-old-garnets', on the other hand, display their consistently pretty hue unconcerned by light-position, background or camera-settings. Be it office-light, sunny day, cloudy, or candle-romantic, these two remain nonchalant and reliable partners through-out even the longest day. Add the moderate price-level (even in 3*NOS quality) to the serenity that comes from NOT fearing the loss of $xxxx in rubies, and you may call such jewelry 'made-to-work' (the slogan of a German Co. selling indestructible apparel). Translated into jewelry we would set them in bezels, attached to lever-back hooks, and declare you ready for anything, cleaning cars, selling real-estate, assassinations and gardening six feet deep; no matter what life throws at you, dirt or blood, these earrings will keep your dignity intact even as you return the favors. Oh, but as always, there is one exception: toddlers! They cling to beauty with dear life, which can be a distraction while driving, especially if you consider twins. Jokes aside, ask us for a package deal and you get made-to-work earrings in 18k gold for $2k (but, no, they cannot be ready for Christmas :-).
