Overall Grade: Excellent

Comment: An utterly new idea for a pair cut, combining checkerboard and 3D concave-cut into the classic drop shape. See the long row of images to understand the concept. Very special. Cut to match for earrings. Rhodolite garnets, though the typical strong purple is missing, instead we have a dark orange red. The bent upper surface, subdivided in eight flat blocks produces a unique additional type of luster, aside from the usual inner luster, light falling in and out of the gems, the surface mirrors light and blinks in rapidly changing motions. The same happens with hue and tone, changing and moving along the X-axis with any movement. The three-dimensional effects of such a cut are hard to describe in words, hence I point to the images hoping they show the different stages of a motion (yes, videos would be great but time and technology is lacking). If you insist, we will sell them as a loose pair but we'd hope to help with a setting so that the novel cut gets the appropriate show. Note how the inner back is actually bend inwards, giving the gems an almost natural shape, like a kernel or a piece of fruit. More unique is hard to find.
