Comment: Here is a color stone. The color is so unique and distinguished that these garnets got their own name, Mandarin Garnet, famous especially from this location. It's size pays for some almost visible inclusions, but no window and no treatments. Its luster is a reflection with sparks and glitter but not a smooth running wave as you may want in a luster stone. Inclusions aside, these garnets have a character close to hessonite with a fuzzy liquid crystal. From the side you can see how brighter and deeper orange roots and patches (sometimes almost red) mix the hue visible from the front. There, face-up, the color is consistent and continuous. Pendant size or rings from 6 to 10. IMO best matching with white gold or platinum. At $600/ct before member discounts, these gems are getting ever rarer in full sizes since the mines have closed down. In the orange section the best deal for a strong color.
