Comment: A deep red-pink-purple rhodolite garnet in must-be-pendant shape and size. Its crystal is dense with silk, turning sharp luster at day into glow at night. The almost antique local hand-cut looks ship-shaped from the front/side, with pretty perfect symmetry in all directions, not always a given in old hand-cuts. Fulfilling our 3*Nos of Excellence: No treatments, no windows, no visible inclusions. Near 10x7mm from 'only' three carats but the thick silky crystal gives the gem an extra weighty appearance, heavier than three carats and deeper than 5mm. The best possible ruby- or spinel-alternative currently available in an affordable price-range, including rubellite. The many published images, some admittedly rather identical, tell you the gem was fun to photograph, many shots too pretty to discard. Not a shiny pinkish character but a calm deep hue reminding of embers in a late night-fire. If you are limited by a tight budget, a simple four-prong pendant is the most reasonable way to show of a gem that few will be able to distinguish from a seriously expensive ruby at first and second sight.
