Comment: This parcel of chrysoberyls comes from a rare find of dramatically color changing gems from Fort Victoria, Zimbabwe. When chrysoberyls change their color between day- and tungsten-light across more than 50% they can be called 'alexandrites' and have the right to a different price-tag. Ideally alexandrites change color between green-blue at day and red-purple at night. A 100% pure turn from green to red, without any purple and blue, is a legend that has yet to be found. These alexandrites from Zimbabwe do exhibit a world-class, perhaps unbeaten color-change, but they are very dark and often almost opaque with inclusions. Nevertheless, if you want to own a piece of the legend, see their potential under the torch: This 1,34, a good size BTW, changes from a rare sky-blue and moss green to rose red. The dark purple seen in mixed day-light is the result of most color-wave-lengths mixed into one reaction. In jewelry or for gem collectors you must be willing to await direct sunlight or strong tungsten-light (ever rarer without torch) to enjoy this miracle. Clean and bright toned alexandrites with strong color-change like this 1.18 demand higher financial input. See under 'more images' where both colors, blue-green and red-purple mix in one light-setting. This is our largest Victoria alexandrites with a good cut (see side image) and interesting details. With 7x6mm big enough for a solitary gent's ring, mystic dark in most light-settings but with hidden qualities to show-off when the time is right (call 'macho' if you feel like it). Note also one UV-light image, just for fun. Last and biggest gem from this long closed mine.
